Get StartedWhile his season opening couldn’t have gone much worse, the MVP race begins with Wembanyama. The French phenom finished just 1-of-13 from the field, but still managed to score 12 points, along with 13 rebounds and six blocks.
The 22-year-old had an ugly night, but his +230 price tells the real story of how the market views his ceiling. Since he effects the game in so many other ways, Wemby doesn’t need to league the Association in scoring to lift the MVP award. In fact, his defensive impact separates himself so massively from other candidates that any improvement on the offensive end only boosts his case.
As long as the Spurs stay near the top of the Western Conference, Wembanyama will lead the MVP conversation. Our fair odds have the 7’4 behemoth at +214, with DraftKings offering the best odds of +230, and a small +5.1% EV opportunity.
Meanwhile, SGA looks to make NBA history and become the first player in 40 years to lift three straight MVP awards. As the unquestioned leader of a superb Oklahoma City squad, Gilgeous-Alexander will once again power his squad to the top of the west, while putting up monster numbers. That being said, a strong Thunder team along with voter fatigue will likely become a factor.
Our fair odds list Shai at +512, while the best available price is +490 at Kalshi, so there’s no +EV in betting on the Canadian at the moment. As such the real NBA MVP betting value lies further down the board.
Best +EV NBA MVP Opportunities
Wembanyama and SGA lead the board for now, but things can swing quickly in the NBA, and I’ve found two players with better value.
Anthony Edwards +90.2% EV
Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards offers the best combination of realistic team success, incredible skill and value on the MVP betting board. Edwards simply does things on the basketball court regular humans can only dream of.
The Georgia product began the year by torching the new-look Miami Heat for 45 points and 10 rebounds in a 25-point win on opening night. Edwards was easily the best player on the floor and he let the Heat know it through out, trash talking his way through a superb night. But, he may finally have a backcourt running mate in LaMelo Ball who can help him unlock a whole new level.
Ball gives Minnesota another legitimate creator, which allows Edwards to work off ball and attack instead of having to create every look for himself. If he can continue to build on his 28.8 points per game and 40% shooting from three last season, while keeping the Timberwolves near the top seed in the West, the sky is the limit for Edwards.
I especially like his price because he’s a human highlight reel on any given night, with the ability to go viral and sway the NBA MVP odds in his favor. Our fair odds have Ant at +531, with DraftKings offering the +1100 price, creating a +90.2% EV betting opportunity.
Jayson Tatum +21.1% EV
While he had a rough outing on opening night, Tatum’s +2000 price at Bally Bet intrigues me. Our fairs odds have him at +1634, creating the +21.1% EV. The former Duke star scored just 13 points on 6-of-23 shooting as Boston blew a 22-point lead against Detroit.
However, there’s 81 other games left for Tatum to impress. Remember, after the Jaylen Brown trade, he’s the unquestioned focal point of the Celtics offense. And Boston is one of the NBA’s most hallowed franchises, which usually sways MVP voters.
The Eastern Conference is wide open, so the Celtics will be able to win enough games to keep him in the conversation. Tatum has plenty of time to recover, and we’re getting an enticing +2000 price on a perennial NBA MVP candidate.
